3 More EarthQuakes Hit Chile
A magnitude-8.8 earthquake on Feb. 27, 2010, the largest in 50 years touched off what Chile's President Michelle Bachelet called "an emergency unparalleled in the history of Chile." Almost a week after the quake, aftershocks have continued to rattle heavily damaged cities along the coastline. Now three strong earthquakes rocked Chile this morning, just as the country was swearing in a new president. A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit at 11:39 a.m. local time there, followed by a 6.9-magnitude quake 16 minutes later, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. A third, measured at magnitude 6.0, came 27 minutes later. first quake shook the ground near Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, near the Chilean coast. A second earthquake struck moments later. It was about 89 miles (143 km) southwest of Santiago. The third was about 86 miles (138 km) southwest of Santiago. A magnitude-8.8 earthquake on Feb. 27, 2010, touched off what Chile's President Michelle Bachelet called "an emergency unparalleled in the history of Chile." Its hard to believe that they continue to have earthquakes! Like they haven't experienced it enough! I will do my part to help out once again.
